Don't Read This If You Haven't Seen Superman Returns

In fact, it's generally a good idea to steer clear altogether.

Here are some lists in lieu of the review:

Things the movie should have had more of…

Superman
Clark Kent… way more
Lex Luthor and Superman conflict
Lois Lane and her interaction with Clark especially
Kal Penn
Soul

Things the movie should have had less of…

Kate Bosworth… hey, she’s a cutie, but not for this role
Water
Parker Posey
Hospitals

What the movie did right…

The airplane rescue.
The Daily Planet Globe on Superman’s shoulders – iconic, and beautiful.
Brandon Routh.
Bullets.
Effects.
Cameos – Noelle Neil and Jack Larson.
John Williams.
Title sequence.

What the movie did wrong…

Editing.
Misunderstood the Lois/Clark/Superman dynamic.

What they did horribly wrong…

Superman isn’t a stalker.
Superman isn’t a date-rapist.
Superman isn’t a deadbeat dad.
Superman is a boy scout.

I saw "Superman Returns" again last night with Sarah and the second time around pretty much cemented most of my first impressions, though I hated Kate Bosworth more. I really wish Spacey had better material to work with.

Saw the movie... Still didn't catch the "date-rapist" part.

Anyway, can you tell the story was written or influenced by someone in a "certified pre-owned" relationship. (fancy name for used cars now-a-days)

Pretty sad that whomever feels the need to make a movie showing that he (the step father) is so much better than superman.

I find the fiction of a alien savior much more appealing than the supposed "good man" hero that got all his money from the family fortune.

Waahhh... Wahhhh... Poor Lois having to wait a whole 5 year for Superman to come back. For gods sake this is Superman! You'd think she would have been more loyal if the guy was that perfect.

What ever happened to the "Odysseus and Penelope" level of faithfulness? 20 years and she still raised a son on her own. Now that is the type of love that should be getting all the screen time in a movie like this.

This movie didn't depict Superman in a bad light in my opionion. However, it did lower my opinion of Louis Lane.

BTW, anyone notice that this movie took the Superman story and added a "Da Vinci Code" style twist. If you think about it, the original movie was about a Jor-El sending his "only son" to save mankind. the story of Superman is not all that different from Jesus. In this movie the specific line about the "father and the son" becoming one is almost straight from scripture.

The movie studio created a lot of continuity problems by going the route of the loose sequel. Was Jason the product of Lois and Clark's get together in Superman 2 or did they couple in a deleted scene from Superman 1 when she "spent the night with Superman?" For that matter, could Superman, considering his level of invulnerablity, actually have relations with Lois? See: "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex" by Larry Niven for further exploration of this issue :-).
